Provocative and subversive, the film follows two conspiracy obsessed young men (Academy Award® nominee Jesse Plemons and newcomer Aidan Delbis) as they burst out of their online rabbit holes and kidnap Michelle (Academy Award® winner Emma Stone), a high powered CEO they believe to be an alien who has come to destroy us.
After the pair chain her in a basement and come face-to-face with the enemy, the two sides — the tinfoil-hat basement dwellers and the steely, soulless corporate executive — soon find themselves pitched in a battle as viscerally unpredictable as it is unexpectedly moving.
Anchored by powerhouse performances from Jesse Plemons and Emma Stone and newcomer Aidan Delbis, along with a devilishly sharp script from Will Tracy (Succession, The Menu), Lanthimos constructs an audaciously original portrait of what it means to laugh, cry, and recoil in the fate of humanity.

There are five (5) winners for the competition. Each prize includes:
One (1) double pass to see Bugonia valid at any participating cinema showing this film.
The film is not yet classified. Winners must check the final rating and meet all age restrictions for admission.
The prize draw will be conducted on Monday 27 October 2025 by representatives of One New Zealand by random electronic draw.
The winners will be contacted on Monday 27 October 2025 using the details provided as part of your My One NZ registration. If the winners cannot be reached within 48 hours, One New Zealand will have sole and absolute discretion to draw the prize again and award the prize to a new winner.
The prize is not redeemable for cash, cannot be substituted with an alternative prize or sold. The prize must be used while the movie is still showing in cinemas, it will not be replaced if it is not used in time.
The prize will be organised by representatives of One New Zealand and will be emailed to the winners using the email provided as part of your My One NZ registration as soon as it becomes available.
